The YARA and Kongsberg partnership declared their desire to build the world’s very first fully-automated, fully electric-powered, and 0 CO2-emitting feeder vessel. The project, given its name after YARA’s Founder, the renowned scientist and innovator Kristian Birkeland, originally aims to fully cut CO2 emissions, with the loading and feeding parts of the container’s journey. Whilst highly-innovative electric straddle carriers shift containers to the loading site, electric-powered cranes will take care of the remainder of the loading.
The vessel intends to function as a manned carrier in the first stage of its procedures, and also by 2019, it intends to become run by a remote procedures center, that will direct the vessel within a set in place path. By 2020, it plans to proceed its procedures as a fully-autonomous carrier.
Once It Heats Up & BECOMES FUNCTIONAL, THE PROJECT WILL SAVE 40,000 TRUCK TRIPS ANNUALLY.
This quantity can also be likely to minimize CO2 emissions by 678 tonnes annually, and also electricity used to charge the ship’s electric batteries is planned to be developed almost exclusively from hydroelectric plants
